Transportation

:::

Thank you for visiting Transition Laguna's Mobility Action Group.

Our mission is to ensure our city meet the needs of all street users including pedestrians, bicyclists, users of public transit, motorists, children, the elderly, and the disabled. We seek to replace a transportation system dominated by the private automobile with a balanced system of mixed mode transport including walking, biking, busing, and automobiles. We seek to educate and mobilize our residents to adopt this new mobility and to preserve our community and the health and safety of its residents."

Every trip that we can make without our car is getting us one step closer to kicking our addiction to oil. Updates on upcoming rides and activities forthcoming...

  1. Are you tired of car traffic in Laguna Beach? Do you think city policy has given the private car exclusive right to our city and neighborhood streets long enough? Maybe it is time to complete the streets! Complete Streets begins with an adopted city policy that allows different modes of mobility to co-exist and with a better record of traffic safety. A complete street means an equal allocation of space is given to all four modes of mobility, walking, biking, busing and driving. A complete street revitalizes the business community by increasing foot traffic and increasing overall capacity of the transportation network. A complete street is designed and operated to enable safe access for all users. Pedestrians, dog walkers, bicycles, motorists and transit riders of all ages and abilities must be able to safely move along and across a complete street. Cities with complete streets policies make sure that their streets and roads accommodate all users in a balanced fashion, as well as seniors, children, and people with disabilities.

  2. Event reminder...Complete Streets Task Force meeting on Thursday June 3rd at 4pm at the Senior Center on 3rd Street. Making our Transition Laguna "voice" heard in the political arena will be an essential ingredient to achieve the community transformation that we all want to see. We are lucky to have a dedicated group that has been working tirelessly for over a year on this front and they need our help! I encourage everyone who can to please come and show your support for the movement that is trying to take back our streets and create safe avenues for pedestrians, bikes & buses. Un coche menos!! Ride your bike, take the bus, walk...or if you have to, drive, but please join us.
